Subteams
SAE Baja is organized into subteams so members can focus on specific parts of the vehicle while still contributing to the full team project.
Frame
The frame team focuses on chassis structure, safety, packaging, manufacturability, and overall vehicle strength.
Drivetrain
The drivetrain team works on power delivery, gearing, axles, and the components that transfer engine power to the wheels.
Suspension
The suspension team develops ride quality, articulation, wheel travel, shocks, control arms, and off-road handling performance.
Additional Technical and Support Areas
Steering / Brakes
This area focuses on vehicle control, stopping performance, driver confidence, and safe operation.
Electronics / Data
This area can include wiring, sensors, dashboards, data collection, troubleshooting, and testing support.
Business / Outreach
This area supports sponsorship, budgeting, recruitment, public relations, event communication, and presentation preparation.
How Subteams Work Together
Each subteam has its own focus, but the vehicle only works when the systems fit together. Frame packaging affects suspension mounting, drivetrain layout, driver position, safety requirements, and maintenance access. Team communication is what turns separate parts into a complete off-road vehicle.
